General Hearings
General hearings, also called general docket or contested case hearings, include cases in which a State of Texas agency decides to take certain action against a person or business. The law often allows the person or business to request an administrative hearing to challenge the action. When a hearing is requested, the agency sends, or refers, the case to the State Office of Administrative Hearings for the hearing. General hearings cover a wide range of subjects including:
- Professional licensing and regulation
- Insurance
- Workers’ compensation medical fee disputes
- Retirement benefits
- Child abuse and neglect
- Child support
- Elder care
- Health and medical services
- Transportation
- Land ownership
- Environment and natural resources
- Public safety
- Financial and utility regulation
